KRISER'S VISITS THE PET RELEAF HEMP FIELDS AND FARM
Some of our Kriser’s Pack recently had the opportunity to visit Pet Releaf’s PR-33 hemp field in northeastern Colorado. We knew the trip with be special since the field is a joint venture between Pet Releaf and the only USDA certified Organic Hemp Farm in the entire country.
When the farm first started, the farmers knew that the best way to begin would be by finding “hemp with history”. They drove around Colorado and found wild or “feral” hemp that had already been growing for many years. They looked for as many different options as possible in order to ultimately develop the best strains, like PR-33, Pet Releaf’s very own proprietary strain.
The farm has since grown into the largest hemp farm in the country – at over 2000 acres, it provides over 20% of the hemp in the United States. It is also mainly run by women – with the crew fluctuating seasonally from 10-15 people during slower winter months to over 50 during the busier months.
While the sheer size of the farm is impressive, what impresses us even more is their hands-on approach and special care taken to ensure the entire operational process is efficient and USDA certified.
USDA ORGANIC CERTIFICATION CAN BE INTENSE, AND IS A LONG-TERM ONGOING PROCESS.
In order to be considered, the partners at the farm first had to provide years of records detailing everything that had been used on the soil and pass an in-person inspection. The soil, or the land itself, must be proven to be free from prohibited substances like certain pesticides and synthetic fertilizers for years prior to the growth of the hemp. After the initial inspection and soil samples, the farm has to continuously provide samples and expect random inspections from the USDA in order to maintain their USDA Organic Certified seal. While it may take a lot of hard work and dedication, it’s absolutely worth the effort to ensure that the entire operational process is USDA certified, and that Pet Releaf’s final product is USDA Organic.
PET RELEAF IS THE ONLY PET COMPANY THAT HAS THE USDA ORGANIC CERTIFICATION.
PR-33 is certified organic and 100% Non-GMO – it begins with just the hemp seed, and uses only sunlight and water from the Colorado underground aquifier and normal precipitation to aid in growth. The farm created a special combine that allows them to process the entire hemp plant without damaging it – allowing Pet Releaf to use the entire plant for maximum efficacy.
The CBD oil is extracted by a super critical CO2 method, ensuring the oil never comes in contact with potentially toxic solvents. The products are independently tested to ensure potency and safety, and studies and testimonials have shown effectiveness for a variety of conditions including:
- Pain relief (arthritis, hip dysplasia, chronic pain and chemotherapy)
- Anxiety
- Aid in treatment of certain cancers (especially when paired with chemo)
- Seizures, including those from epilepsy
- Immune deficiencies
- Inflammatory disorders *Note: above has not yet been evaluated by the FDA.
We’ve explained more in detail the benefits of CBD Oil in helping your furry friends in previous posts, but as a quick breakdown for those of us not familiar with the topic, CBD oil is a non-psychoactive way to potentially provide relief to your pet. Basically – your pets will get all the natural health benefits that come with CBD oil without getting the THC high of marijuana.
The oil is offered in liquid form (Hemp Oil in 100mg or 300mg concentrations) and treat format (“Edibites” in “Blueberry & Cranberry” and “Carob & Coconut”). We recommend the 100mg oil for small dogs and cats who don’t need a high dose to get the benefits. Like many medications, dosing will vary depending on the size of your pet. The Edibites are specially formulated for dogs, with between 1 and 1.5mg of CBD hemp oil per treat. We won’t try to list all dosing recommendations here, but rest assured, when you are ready to try CBD oil, each package includes recommendations for the proper dosage for your pet.
