Dogs hanging out in drum circles, playing hacky sack. Cats who are super into listening to “The Dark Side of the Moon” and laser shows. If that’s how you imagine CBD products affecting your pet, don’t worry. CBD (cannabidiol) does come from cannabis but there’s nothing trippy about it. It’s just a great calming supplement.
FIRST OFF, CBD ISN’T MARIJUANA.
They both come from the cannabis plant but have very different results. Marijuana is the species of cannabis with lots of THC (the psychoactive component that gives you a high) and very little CBD. CBD comes from the other species of cannabis, hemp—it’s high in soothing CBD and has only trace amounts of THC (that means .03%, or less).
GET ALL THE BENEFITS WITH FULL SPECTRUM HEMP.
Some lower quality products only contain CBD isolate, but hemp is full of lots of good stuff. With full spectrum hemp, your pet gets all the benefits of CBD plus the other cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, antioxidants, fatty acids, vitamins and minerals hemp has to offer.
CBD products made with full spectrum hemp can
- Help maintain normal emotional balance
- Calm anxiety and overexcitement
- Support immune system function
- Support a healthy inflammatory response
- Help maintain a healthy intestinal tract
- Reduce pain
They can also help with:
- Epileptic episodes
- Skin and GI tract issues
- Cancer symptoms
How it’s made matters.
As always, organic is better (no pesticides or scary chemicals). Then, there’s the method by which cannabinoids are extracted from the hemp. Butane/Ethanol extraction? That’s bad because it could leave behind toxic substances in your pet’s CBD oil. What’s best? CO2 extraction, which leaves nothing bad behind. Another shopping note— don’t mistake hemp seed oil for CBD. Same plant, but it has different cannabinoids for different benefits.
Find what works for your pet.
CBD comes in lots of delivery options including oils, biscuits, soft chews, capsules, salves, gels and even products that mix it with food, such as peanut butter. Once taken, you should see results within 15-30 minutes, and those should last about 4-8 hours. CBD is safe for your pet to take with other medications but, as with any major change, it’s always good to check with your vet.
Our favorites? Glad you asked.
We carry full spectrum, organic hemp products made with C02 extraction—but due to current legal restrictions, they’re only available in store.
