HOW TO PICK A CHEW
You walk into a pet store and stand in front of the chews. Which one is right for your pet? Here’s our rules of thumb.
There are a lot of great chews out there, and in our time, we’ve seen more of the animal getting used and healthier options debuting. It used to be only rawhide.
Size: Pick a part that is right-sized…whatever you give your pet should be bigger than their mouths. And don’t hesitate to take it away when it gets too small. Always monitor your pet while chewing, in case that small piece gets too small, and they swallow more than they should. Consult a vet immediately if you notice any signs of distress.
Next up is strength: How aggressive a chewer is your dog? Does he or sheet really go to town on treats or is it more of a nibble?
For those aggressive chewers, try a bully stick. It should keep even a rough chewer busy for a while.
For a softer chewer, try a Lamb Ear, which is a bit more delicate.
Looking for rawhide? We strongly recommend looking for one that is formaldehyde free and comes from the USA, like the Calais ones we carry. Rawhide is among the most abused chews out there.
Want a meat alternative? Try Himalayan Dog Chews, which are made out of a smoked yak milk! Another great meat-free option is sweet potato chews. We have all different sizes and shapes, so check with your local Kriser’s for the best for your pet.
