Last month we were honored to support American Humane as their official pet supply sponsor for a new pilot program, “Shelter to Service”!

This program went to local animal shelters, selected a few very lucky dogs and trained them to be lifesaving service animals for military veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress (PTS) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).

The veteran/service dog teams formally graduated from the program on Sunday, July 16th, 2017. It consistented of advanced training for the animals where the class learned everything from basic obedience to safe, proper behaviors in public places including retail stores and airport security. Each dog learned specific tasks tailored to meet the unique needs of a veteran with PTS or TBI

“An average of 20 American veterans commit suicide each day, and an estimated 670,000 dogs are euthanized in U.S. animal shelters every year,” said American Humane President and CEO Dr. Robin Ganzert.

“With the support of Kriser’s Natural Pet, American Humane’s Shelter to Service program saved lives of adoptable, abandoned animals and harness the power of the human-animal bond to help our nation’s veterans.”

Back in April 2017, Kriser’s and “Kriser’s Approved” food and supplies brands came together to donate a 3-month’s supply of natural food, natural treats, dog beds and other essential supplies to help these pups through their rigorous training.
